Maisy Makes Gingerbread

Here's a fun recipe for old-fashioned gingerbread cookies-- just like the ones Maisy makes!
Ask an adult to help you with measuring, pouring, mixing, rolling, and using the oven.
You can cut the dough into shapes with your favorite cookie cutter.

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups sugar
1 cup butter
1/3 cup molassas
1 egg
3 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl until they are well combined.
Refrigerate the mixture for a minimum of 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out the dough until it is 1/8-inch thick.
Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into shapes.
Place the unbaked cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 6 to 9 minutes.

When the cookies have cooled you can decorate them with cake icing if you like!
